Artists Association
The Hilton Head Plantation Artists Association is a non-profit organization that studies and promotes the visual arts with monthly educational programs, group painting sessions, workshops, and art exhibitions. The Association is open to all Plantation residents who are interested in the visual arts. Members work in a broad variety of media and range from beginners to accomplished professionals. Scheduled meetings generally have a speaker or demonstration concerning a wide variety of art-related topics. The Plantation House serves as a gallery for the artists -- most work hung in the Plantation House is for sale by contacting the artist. Informal opportunities to paint and exchange information with other artists occur every Monday and Tuesday from 10:30 am until 4:00 pm on the second floor of the Plantation House. The Plantation Artists hold an annual show in May at the Plantation House. Residents are urged to join and explore their creativity; every artist has to have a place to start and encouragement from other artists certainly helps!

Craft Workshop
Our club is composed of about 30 friendly women (men are also welcome) who enjoy meeting twice a month to share fellowship and make items that can be sold at our two sales each year, the profits from which are donated to the Hospice Care of the Lowcountry. There are numerous crafts, sewing, knitting, flower arranging, and just about anything you can think of, underway at any of our meetings. Many of our members also continue to work on their projects at home.
Our Spring Show and Sale for the benefit of the Hospice Care of the Lowcountry will be Saturday, April 12, 2008, from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Plantation House. There will be a huge selection of unique handmade items at reasonable prices including lovely Mother's Day, Father's Day, birthday, graduation, shower, wedding, and hostess gifts, or perhaps something special just for you. There will also be some live plants for sale and a bake sale.
Our Annual Sale will be on Saturday, October 18, 2008, from 10 AM to 2 PM, at Christ Lutheran Church, 829 William Hilton Parkway, between markers 8 and 9. Please plan to join us at both sales.
For the past eleven years, we have donated over $134,000 to the Hospice Care of the Lowcountry. This is a community-based, non-profit agency. Its mission is, “To provide quality care for our patients as they near the end of life, and for their families.” They welcome patients of all ages, backgrounds, and religious affiliations. They will accept anyone in need, regardless of ability to pay, including children. The money that our group (and others in the community), donates helps to fund their work.
Our club always welcomes new members. Crafter or beginner—we have a place for you. Many of our members started out not knowing very much about crafting and today they are some of our most productive crafters. On-the-job training is the key.
We meet at the Spring Lake Pavilion on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month, through May 8. We do not meet again until Thursday, August 14, 2008 and will meet thereafter on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays, also at Spring Lake Pavilion, until after our Annual Sale. We do not meet again until the beginning of the next year. Our meetings start at 9:30 AM. We have a short business meeting about 11:30 AM and serve coffee and cake. Our dues are $5.00 per year, plus preparing cake for one of our meetings. Come join us.

Land Trust
In less than fifteen years, our Land Trust of Hilton Head Island has assumed a role of prominence and leadership in preserving the unique sense of beauty that distinguishes our Island. We are a reflection of all people who care about Hilton Head Island and its Lowcountry characteristics
In Hilton Head Plantation, we are fortunate to have two beautiful conservancies. One is Whooping Crane Conservancy consisting of 137 acres and the other is Cypress Conservancy consisting of 37 acres. Both of these areas have boardwalks throughout for easy viewing. The Land Trust manages these properties under a conservation easement for the Hilton Head Plantation Property Owners' Association. We also manage Northridge Tract, 66 acres in the center of Hilton Head Island that will eventually become a park open to all. Fort Howell, which is a five-acres Fort built by the Union Army in 1864 is also under our auspices.
The Land Trust can receive outright gifts of land or it can protect the land that is in the name of private owners by means of a conservation easement, which protects the land in perpetuity. A group of interested citizens manage the Land Trust. Membership is open to all citizens for annual dues.
